Christmas

What's on...

Christmas is a wonderful time to connect with family and friends and to seek together the true meaning of the season; to wonder how a tiny baby, born over 2000 years ago, continues to bring hope, joy and light.  Come join us as this festive season...  Sing your favourite Carols, dress up and star in our Nativity play, join a Sunday service, or try your hand wreath making, we'd love to welcome you!

Perhaps you've never been to church before, or you haven't been for ages, Christmas is a great time to come and see what it's all about, a great time to invite and bring your friends, you can be sure of friendly faces, and maybe the odd terrible Christmas jumper!

Carol Service

Picture
Expect carols, old and new, a live band, bible readings, Christmas quiz, craft for the kids, festive nibbles, mulled wine or mulled juice.  And a chance to share together in the joy and hope of Christmas!  The Carol service is for everyone, of all ages, and we'd love to see you there!

Traditional Carols for older folk

Picture
It was such a joy to welcome ladies and gents of a more mature persuasion to join us last year for familiar traditional carols, readings, a short choral performance, and delicious tea and cake!  The service is held in the main hall at Gordano School, which is warm, light and fully accessible, with ramped access for wheelchairs or mobility scooters.  There is plenty of parking close by.

If you would like any more details, or to confirm you are coming, please contact Alison, [email protected] , although you are welcome to simply turn up on the day.

Advent Services

Our advent services this year are:

Sun 1 Dec Alison John ponders, 'What if Mary said no?', with separate groups for children and young people
Sun 8 Dec 'A time to celebrate!'  Our special Second Sunday, with breakfast and worship for everyone!
Enjoy croissants, fruit, toast and coffee, with cafe-style seating.  Followed by a youth band, Christmas story and Christmas activities.
We are delighted to dedicate Baby Hoyles this week too, officially welcoming him into the church family.
Sun 15 Dec Dave John muses on the 'God of the Small things', with separate groups for children and young people
Sun 22 Dec Evening Carol service, 6-7pm followed by festive refreshments

Christmas Day 25 Dec Dave Francis shares about the 'Simple and weird', a 1 hour service for all the family to celebrate Jesus' birth

Sun 29 Dec Katy Duncan wonders, 'What if Joseph ran away?' a service for all ages
Sun 5 Jan Sam Marsh leads an Encounter-style service, with lots of time for prayer and worship.  Lighthouse kids group is on.

Sunday services are in the Main Hall at Gordano School, 10:30-11:45am, followed by tea, coffee and biscuits.  Except for Christmas day, where we skip refreshments so you can get back home to your turkey (!!!).  A special highlight for Advent will the be lighting of the Christmas wreath candles, lit each week by our children.

Nativity at Noah's Ark Zoo Farm

Picture
We are so excited to return to Noah's Ark once again this year for a wonderful pop-up Nativity.  Come and join the fun as we celebrate the greatest Christmas story ever told!  If you want to dress up, costumes are provided, or bring your own.  Please come at 10:40 so you have time to arrive and get dressed up before the performance at 11am.  There will be free craft, where you get to make your own lanterns to take home.  There will also be photo opportunities with the gorgeous stable background, where you can create your perfect family selfie!

Tickets are £8 per person, which is an amazing saving on the gate price (usually £24 adult, £22 child).  Tickets will entitle you to join the Nativity and then stay at the Zoo all day, enjoying the animals, play areas, cafe, animal talks.  Simply turn up on the day before 11am and show the flier above, or quote CLUDONATIVITY to get this special price.  The Zoo opens from 10:30-5pm.  Find out more about what to expect there at: www.noahsarkzoofarm.co.uk

We also have a limited number of FREE tickets available for families in need.  Please contact Carol, [email protected] to request free tickets.

Festive Wreath Making

We are so excited for this Festive First, an evening to make a beautiful wreath to decorate your home, enjoying time with friends over festive refreshments.  It was such a great evening, and what an amazing variety of wreaths, here are some pictures of the event.

Christmas giving

Every year we like to support causes close to home and far away, to share our Christmas blessings.  This year our Christmas Appeal is being used to support the Bristol charity 'In Hope' (www.inhope.uk) and family & community projects in Portishead, via our Community Fund.  If you would like to find out more, including how to give, click here.
